Molds are fungi that can be found in both indoors and outdoors environments. No one really can determine how many species of fungi exist, however estimates range from tens of thousands to perhapse hundreds of thousands. Molds grow best in damp, humid conditions.

Some people are sensitive to molds. Exposure to molds can cause hazardous symptoms such as nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing and sore throat. Some people, such as those with serious allergies to molds, may have more severe reactions including fever, fatigue and shortness of breath. Some people with chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may develop mold infections in their lungs.

Sensitive individuals should avoid areas that are likely to have mold. such as compost piles, cut grass, and wooded areas. Mold growth can be slowed inside your home by keeping humidity levels between 40% and 60%, and by ventilating showers and cooking areas.
